Holwell Shuster & Goldberg’s Asian Equality Taskforce Issues Mission Statement
Asian Equality Taskforce Mission Statement
Anti-Asian violence has been on the rise nationwide, with New York City recording the highest number of anti-Asian incidents in the U.S. Reported hate crimes against Asian New Yorkers have increased by 400% in 2021 compared to the same time frame in 2020. Sadly, many more incidents go unreported.
In keeping with an ongoing commitment to fight racism, the Asian Equality Taskforce at Holwell Shuster & Goldberg aims to raise awareness and implement initiatives to show solidarity and support for all members of our community who are experiencing racist backlash in the current climate. HSG will pursue and identify opportunities to partner with Asian community leaders to effect social change, provide resources and opportunities for the firm’s members, and to partner with other firms, businesses, and organizations working to extinguish hate and racism toward Asian Americans in our communities.
As members of the legal community, we are deeply committed to protecting the rights of all people and denounce the heinous acts of violence inflicted on our Asian neighbors and friends. The profound effects of this violence cannot be overstated. Hate has led to the worst crimes in human history such as the devastating impacts of war and the ongoing hate-driven racist attacks upon Asians walking home from work, the store, school, or church. Each act of violence changes a victim’s life forever. Hate crimes reverberate throughout Asian communities, further marginalizing people and instilling fear that they could be the next person attacked.
HSG is committed to being a part of the solution to foster changes that end violence against all people because of heritage, skin color, gender identity, religion, or sexual orientation. Racism colors our past, but it does not have to rule our future.
