Michael Shuster Named a Top Trial Lawyer by Benchmark Litigation
New York—Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP co-founding partner Michael Shuster has been named one of the country’s top trial lawyers by Benchmark Litigation. Benchmark Litigation also named Mike a finalist for General Commercial Litigator of the Year for 2023.
Mike’s Benchmark Litigation profile quotes clients as calling him an “elite litigator” who is “fantastic with clients, has super judgment, and has the right style and charisma for a courtroom litigator.” Sources have told Chambers USA, meanwhile, that they trust his judgment “implicitly” and that Mike is the “finest lawyer in New York.” His current portfolio of high-stakes litigation matters includes his representation of Visa in multibillion-dollar antitrust class actions and opt-out litigation relating to network rules at the heart of the Visa system, the insurer Chubb in national coverage litigation relating to opioids, and a hybrid electric aircraft startup in connection with trade secret claims against Boeing.
The honor adds to a lengthy list of career accolades for Mike, who has been ranked by Chambers USA as a leading litigator for 18 consecutive years. He is currently ranked by Chambers in general litigation and RMBS securities litigation, an area in which he performed groundbreaking work, recovering billions of dollars for plaintiffs in RMBS put-back actions following the bursting of the housing bubble in 2007-08. Mike has represented numerous clients in high-profile and highly contested domestic and cross-border matters across a variety of disciplines and a multiplicity of fora, including federal and state courts throughout the United States and in arbitrations under the ICC, AAA, and other rules.
In addition to defending multibillion-dollar claims, Mike and his colleagues have secured billions in verdicts and settlements on behalf of clients. Mike has represented, among others, Alstom Group, Amerada Hess, Banco Santander, Bank of New York Mellon, Credit Lyonnaise, Comcast, Kenneth Cole, Croatia, General Re, Landoil (Philippines), MacAndrews & Forbes, Mega Brands, MGM, Och-Ziff, Raytheon, Royal Bank of Canada, Saudi Refining, Swiss Bank, Taisho Pharmaceuticals, UBS, Univision, XPO Logistics, and numerous other clients.
In addition to being widely respected throughout the profession for his talent as a litigator, Mike is equally revered within HSG for his active and supportive mentorship of younger attorneys and his steadfast support for pro bono work within the firm.
