Overview

Patrick Woods maintains a broad complex commercial litigation practice, with an emphasis on financial services, bankruptcy, and antitrust.  

Patrick previously worked as a litigation associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP. He also served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Amalya L. Kearse of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. After graduating from Columbia and before entering law school, he worked as a litigation paralegal at Ernst & Young LLP.

Notable Cases

  • Melody Capital Partners, an investment fund, as plaintiff in various litigations and out-of-court foreclosures under the Uniform Commercial Code resulting from defaults under loan agreements secured by equity interests, real estate, and fine art, among other collateral.
  • A Portuguese energy firm in contract disputes with General Electric and the Republic of Angola in several state and federal courts, including a petition for certiorari to the Supreme Court.
  • A senior executive in litigation arising from alleged breach of non-solicitation agreement.
  • Pro bono representation of an individual challenging the constitutionality of derivative citizenship statute before the Eleventh Circuit; civil procedure professors in an amicus brief to the Second Circuit in a class action challenging New York City’s foster care system; and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in an amicus brief to the Supreme Court.
