Holwell Shuster & Goldberg Wins Four Awards, Including General Commercial Firm of the Year and New York Firm of the Year, at Benchmark Litigation 2025 Gala
New York—Benchmark Litigation has named Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP General Commercial Firm of the Year and New York Firm of the Year. HSG also took home an Impact Case Award for winning a $101 million jury verdict against Walmart in London Luxury LLC v. Walmart Inc., and Mike Shuster was inducted into Benchmark’s Hall of Fame.
Benchmark selected HSG as General Commercial Firm of the Year and New York Firm of the Year from a shortlist of firms that included Cravath Swaine & Moore, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, Hueston Hennigan, Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler, Susman Godfrey, Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz, and Williams & Connolly. This is the third time HSG has won New York Firm of the Year since its founding in 2012.
Touted by clients and peers for its “client service, talent, bench strength, advocacy, professionalism, and strategy,” HSG’s trial prowess was on full display over the past year. In addition to winning a $101 million jury verdict against Walmart in a lawsuit alleging that Walmart wrongfully cancelled its contract to purchase more than $500 million in personal protective equipment, the firm also secured a significant jury verdict against Boeing in a lawsuit alleging the company stole substantial trade secrets from start-up Zunum Aero Inc. related to the development of electric and hybrid-electric aircrafts (post-verdict proceedings are ongoing). Among other notable matters from the past year, in October 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court granted the firm’s petition for certiorari in Waetzig v. Halliburton Energy Services, Inc. In February of this year, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of HSG’s client.
Widely and generously praised by the industry as one of New York’s leading trial lawyers, Mike currently serves as national lead trial counsel to Visa in multi-district class action antitrust litigation filed on behalf of merchants, as well as in opt-out cases brought by the world’s largest retailers relating to network rules at the heart of the Visa system. Mike and his team will serve as lead trial counsel to Visa against six behemoth retailers in October 2025 in the Southern District of New York. Mike joins Richard Holwell, co-founder of HSG and former Southern District of New York judge, on Benchmark’s Hall of Fame.
